The Leiden University Centre for Innovation, Iforesee and the Dutch Future Society are organizing inspirationlabs to bring together prominent thinkers from different disciplines and different parts of the world, informed by highly distinct academic, artistic and cultural backgrounds, to engage in discussion and contemplation.
The aim of Inspirationlabs is to inform professionals and students about the latest trends, to inspire them to look over boundaries of fields and to stimulate entrepreneurship and social networking. One scientist and one practitioner share their perspectives on one topic. This months theme: “Imagination”.
Futurist and research analyst Freija van Duijne will address the interrelation between story telling and innovation. She will show how science fiction and other genres have inspired scientists and inventors to make current science fiction, become a future reality. Given the current speed of innovations, she will discuss what stories we need today to build a better future using the possibilities of emerging technologies.
Dr. Cissie Fu will take us on a philosophical investigation of the power of imagination. From hypothetical experiments which tease apart our beliefs and intuitions to perceptual foundations for judgment and empathy, imagination is both a creative and a disruptive force. Let's explore how this unique human capacity can be harnessed, individually and collectively, for current and future challenges.
